Johnson County Jail Visitation Rules

Visitation:

Inmates may receive one (1) on site visit per week, twenty (20) minutes in duration.

However, visitation may be canceled without notice if there is substantial evidence that such visitation jeopardizes the safety and security of the facility or the visitors. All visits are subject to cancellation due to violations from the public as well. This includes public nudity and vulgarity.

Visitation schedule is as follows:

All female inmates:

Saturdays 8:00am to 10:00am

Check in no later than 9:00am

Male inmates, last name beginning A-L

Saturdays 1:00pm to 5:00pm

Check in no later than 4:00pm

Male inmates, last name beginning M-Z

Sundays 1:00pm to 5:00pm

Check in no later than 4:00pm

The following rules for visitation will be enforced:

a.) No halter tops

b.) No see through tops

c.) No low cut blouse or shirts

d.) No short shorts

e.) No clothing that has holes exposing the buttocks, breasts or groin area.

f.) All visitors will control their children. Failure to do so could result in forfeiting their visit.

g.) A parent or legal guardian must accompany all visitors under the age of 18.

h.) No cellphones, cameras, or recording devices will be allowed in the visitation room.

i.) No nudity of any kind will be allowed.

All visitors above the age of sixteen (16) must show proof of identification by use of one (1) or more of the following documents:

Valid driver’s license

State issued I.D.

Certified copy, certificate of birth

Pictured school identification

Video Visitation:

The Johnson County Jail added Video Visitation, with the exception of court-ordered contact visits, attorney conferences and other visits that are approved by jail administration.

1.) Participation in video visitation is a privilege, not a right. Both visitor and inmate are expected to conduct themselves in an appropriate fashion at all times during a video visit.

2.) Johnson County reserves the right to deny, cancel, or terminate a video visit prior to or during a video session based upon visitor and/or inmate conduct. Johnson County also reserves the right to restrict visitor(s) from participating in any or all future use of the video system.

3.) Any nudity, tight fitting or provocative clothing is strictly prohibited and will result in having your visitation privileges suspended indefinitely.

4.) RECORDINGS and PHOTOGRAPHS (screenshots) of any kind are NOT allowed during visitation, any of these actions may result in your visitation privileges being suspended indefinitely.

5.) The posting in part or in whole of any video message, picture of an inmate inside the facility, or video recording of an inmate to any social media account or any entity outside of the Johnson County Jail is strictly prohibited and will result in the suspension of the account in violation in accordance with the policies set forth by the Johnson County Jail.

6.) Driving while in video visitation is strictly prohibited and will result in suspension of the visitor’s account in accordance with the jail’s policy.

7.) Inmates are required to be in full jail uniform while on video visitation and at all times while outside their assigned bunk. Any inmate caught on the kiosk to be outside of the jail issued uniform will be subject to a 15 day video suspension for the first violation, a 30 day video suspension for the second violation, a third violation will result in an indefinite video suspension, and the inmate may face disciplinary action for failure to follow jail rules and regulations.

8.) Three-way calling of any kind is strictly prohibited and will result in account suspension in accordance with the policy of the Johnson County Jail.

9.) All use of the video visit system (friends, family, and inmate) is recorded and subject to monitoring by all Johnson County Sheriff’s Office employees. Your use of the video visitation system constitutes consent to any and all recordings and monitoring.

AT-HOME VISITATION HOURS/INFORMATION:

All visitors must utilize Homewav.com or download the Homewav application to participate in video visitation. All calls are inmate initiated. Visitors must upload a valid state issued ID with all of their information clearly visible. Visitors must also upload a forward facing photo from the shoulders up with no filters, emoji, stamps, words, etc. applied. Photos must be of the visitor only. Minors (anyone under the age of 18) may utilize the account of an adult as long as the adult is present in the visit.

At-Home Visitation Hours:

All video visitation from home will require that the visitor set up an account through Homewav.com.

1.) Tight fitting, provocative, or see through clothing is prohibited.

2.) Nudity, partial nudity, sexual acts, simulated sexual acts, or depiction thereof is prohibited.

3.) Security threat group or gang activity, signage, symbols, or other representation of any such group is prohibited.

 4.) Any illegal activity, conspiracy to commit an illegal act, or depiction thereof is prohibited.

5.) Driving while participating in a video visit.

6.) No portion of a video message, video call, picture message, or screenshot may be posted on any form of social media or uploaded to the web in any capacity.

Pricing for At-Home Visits:

All phone calls made through Homewav are $.20 a minute.

All Video calls made through Homewav are $.25 a minute

All discrepancies with charges for phone calls, video visits, text messages, and multimedia messages need to be addressed with Homewav directly as Johnson County Jail does not control the financial aspect of this affiliate and can therefore not issue any refunds.

On-Site Visitation Hours/Information (On-Site is Currently Suspended)

  1. Each inmate in the Johnson County Jail is entitled to 1-free (20-minute) visit per week (MUST BE DONE ON-SITE). Inmate’s free visits are scheduled by availability. The system will notify the visiting party of cancellations or changes via email. The system will also notify if the inmate’s 1-free (20-minute) visit per week has been used or is already scheduled by giving a message of not available.
  2. At the time of scheduling, the family member/friend must be prepared to provide the following information:

a.) Inmate Legal Name or Jail ID Number

b.) Visitor’s Official Picture ID (Driver’s License, School ID if minor)

c.) Visitor’s Home Address

d.) Visitor’s Telephone Number

e.) Visitor’s Email Address

  1. ALL VISITORS MUST BRING AN ID TO THE FACILITY WHEN THE SCHEDULED VISIT TAKES PLACE VISITS WILL PROMPTLY START, PLEASE ARRIVE A FEW MINUTES EARLY.
JOHNSON COUNTY JAIL VISITATION RULES FOR ON-SITE VISITATION:
  1. On-site visits must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance by the visitor and accepted by the inmate prior to the visit’s scheduled start time. Visits can be scheduled online by clicking the yellow button below or scheduled in the front lobby of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department.
  2. Visitors must present a valid government issued ID.
  3. On-Site visitors are subject to search for a person.
  4. The duration of each visit is 20 minutes. Each inmate is permitted one free visit per week.
  5. No more than three visitors at a time will be allowed in the visitor booth and all visitors must register at the same time that the original visit is scheduled.
  6. All visits are recorded and subject to electronic monitoring by the Johnson County Jail Staff.
  7. Every visitor that scheduled their visit in advance must show up at least 15 minutes prior to the visit starting and no more than 20 minutes prior to the visit starting. Visitors who arrive late will not be allowed to visit on that day and will have to reschedule for the following week.
  8. Visitors who violate Section 8, A through D will be barred from onsite visitation and off site video visitation.
  9. See through clothing is prohibited.
  10. Nudity, partial nudity, sexual acts, simulated sexual acts, or depiction thereof is prohibited.
  11. Security threat, group or gang activity, signage, symbols, or other representation of any such group is prohibited.
  12. Any illegal activity, conspiracy to commit an illegal act, or depiction thereof is prohibited.
  13. Three way calling
  14. Visitors who violate any of these rules will be barred on first offense for FORTY FIVE (45) days from the use of video visitation. If said visitor violates any other rule during this FORTY FIVE (45) Day sanction, said visitor will be barred for a full THREE HUNDRED SIXTY FIVE DAYS (365).

a.) Visitors will only be reapproved, if the inmate petitions the Johnson County Jail to have the visitor reinstated after the FORTY FIVE (45) day sanction.

b.) At this time HomeWav Monitor Violations during the FORTY FIVE (45) sanction include but are not limited to the following:

i.) Setting up a new, alternate or fraudulent account to visit said inmate in an attempt to circumvent the loss of video privileges.

ii.) Three – way calling with said inmate.

iii.) Being at someone else’s house and consuming or appearing in the visit that is under someone else’s name.

  1. Visitors that violate the rules on the THREE HUNDRED SIXTY FIVE DAY (365) sanction will be considered for the penalty of being barred for life.
  2. Visitors who appear to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs are subject to having their visit canceled, being barred from visiting in the future, and are subject to arrest.
  3. During the visit, the visitor is required to stay seated at the visitation terminal. If the visitor leaves the terminal, the visit will be terminated.
  4. Visitors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
  5. Visitors may only bring their identification and car keys into the visitation area. No purses, diaper bags, briefcases, etc. Cellular phones, cameras and other electronic devices are strictly prohibited and will result in the visiting privileges being revoked.
  6. Loud talking or any type of behavior will not be permitted.
  7. Defacing or damaging the visitation terminal will result in criminal prosecution.
  8. If you experience a problem with the audio or video reception during your visit, you are required to notify Corrections Staff immediately.
Telephone Accessibility:

Telephones are provided in each cell block, dormitory, and holding tank for your convenience. There will also be the addition of tablets in the near future that will allow for regular phone calls and text messaging. The phone system is owned and maintained by a private vendor. Please note there can be a connection fee charge per call. All calls made by inmates are “collect” calls. However, calls to any public defender are toll free. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office does not set the usage rate on telephone calls. Intentional damage to any component of the telephone system will result in the filing of criminal charges against the responsible individual in addition to restitution for all damages. All telephones are monitored by closed-circuit video. The jail staff can turn on/off telephones at any time as necessary to ensure the safety and security of the facility. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is not responsible for calls that are disconnected by any source.

All calls may be monitored and recorded.

All visitors are required to create an account on the HomeWAV website. Persons under the age of 18 years must be accompanied by an adult with a valid HomeWAV account.

During the visit the visitor and the inmate must be logged in under their individual credentials. No sharing visits by visitors or inmates.

On-site visitations are scheduled 24 hours in advance pending visitor approval. Visitors are responsible for scheduling visits.

Remote Video Visitation is available:

By using the Johnson County Jail video visitation equipment, you are subject to recording and monitoring.

All visitors must dress appropriately, suggested attire should be appropriate to wear around small children.

No recording devices, cell phones or cameras are allowed in the visitation area of the jail. Please leave these items in your vehicle.

No flashing or obscene behavior will be tolerated. Any visitor found to be in the violation will be blocked from all future visits.

Inmate’s Use of Telephones:

Inmates now utilize HomeWAV Voice through the video visitation systems to place regular phone calls. The phones are available in their housing areas daily from 8:00 AM to 11:00PM. HomeWAV Voice cannot call pagers, internet phones, etc. Money can be added to the inmate’s phone account through www.homewav.com utilizing the “Deposit Funds NOW!” button at the top of the HomeWAV webpage or by coming on-site and using the HomeWAV kiosk in the lobby.

Sheriff and Jail Staff can only deliver verifiable emergency telephone messages. Jail Supervisor will verify thru Hospital, Coroner, and Funeral Home etc.
